Bob Stevenson is excited to announce that today he has received the support and endorsement of former First Congressional District candidates Tina Cannon and Mark Shepherd, ahead of the upcoming Republican primary.
“After independently vetting and then together conversing regarding the remaining four candidates in the Republican race for the First Congressional District, we have both determined Bob is our choice to represent us, as well as the people and families of our district,” stated Ms. Cannon.
Citing his dedication to protect Hill Air Force Base, Shepherd commended Stevenson’s long and successful involvement in defending the base as Mayor of Layton and as Davis County Commissioner. “HAFB plays a huge role in Utah’s economy by providing 30,000+ jobs and a $3.7B annually into the state’s economy,” said Mr. Shepherd.
Shepherd continued, “Bob’s in depth understanding of Hill Air Force Base, its mission, and most importantly its impact on Utah’s economy, clearly sets him apart as the individual we need to represent us in Washington. As we considered the candidates, Bob is the only one with a proven track record of consistent involvement with the base. He also has established connections through the Air Force Civic Leader Program. Air Force Civic Leaders are unpaid advisers, key communicators and advocates for the Air Force. Stevenson’s work in this program will become a major asset as a Congressman. He is better prepared than the other remaining candidates to protect and help strengthen Hill.”
Ms. Cannon, a lifelong resident in Utah’s First District, stated; “Honest and ethical leadership is my number one criterion in vetting candidates. Politics is divisive by nature. Standing despite opposition takes guts and courage. If you haven’t done it -– Washington, D.C. isn’t the time or place to learn it. America, Utah, and particularly the citizens of the First District, deserve leaders who have a history of honesty and principled leadership. For that reason, Bob Stevenson is my choice.”
Both Cannon and Shepherd appreciate Bob’s transportation and infrastructure experience. “Economic development, for both the urban and rural portions of the district, will only be achieved as if we keep an eye toward smart growth and development of necessary and adequate infrastructure. We must build a balanced infrastructure that will meet the demands for good paying jobs, affordable housing, quality education and dependable transportation and water. Bob understands these issues and is committed to helping all sectors of the district prosper,” concluded Ms. Cannon.
The ability to work with a diverse group of people and ideas is also critical in Washington, D.C. “I’ve worked with Bob, both in his capacity as Mayor of Layton, Davis County Commissioner, Chairman of the Wasatch Front Regional Council, and as Chairman of the Davis County Council of Governments” stated Shepherd. “Bob works to bring people together in identifying challenges, developing solutions, and implementing strategies for success.”
Stevenson is leading in the race according to a recent Utah Policy poll. Primary ballots will arrive in voter’s mailboxes this week. Registered Republicans can vote and return mail their ballots as soon as they receive them.
